Dog reunited with owner in Wichita after accidental flight to Japan

Local

“It feels actually amazing to finally have him back,” said Wichita resident Kara Swindle, of her dog Irgo.
There was a mistake no one could have seen coming.

Ten-year-old German Shepherd Irgo took an unintended voyage to Japan after a mix-up.

“Never ever would I ever imagined that, no,” said Swindle.

The family sent him on a flight from Portland with the understanding his final destination would be Kansas City, Missouri.

When they went to pick him up, the Swindles were given a Great Dane instead.

They found out Irgo had been put on a flight to Japan, where the other dog was supposed to be traveling.

Now, Irgo has joined the Swindles in their new home of Wichita.

“He ran right up to us and was crying and so happy,” Swindle said of the moment they were reunited.

So where to next for the family?

“I don’t know yet,” said Swindle. “We’re so new to the city we don’t know what there is.”

Now that Irgo is back, they can become familiar with Wichita together.

“Ready to go home now?” Swindle asked Irgo while taking him to the car from the airport.

She says she doesn’t foresee him going on anymore flights in the near future.
