Employee of special ed services charged for child sex crimes

SUMNER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) - An employee of Sumner County Educational Services, Interlocal 619 was charged Thursday with several counts including sexual exploitation of a child.

Remington Friend was charged with the following: two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of electronic solicitation, one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of unlawful voluntary sexual relations. 

His bond has been set at $25,000 and he is scheduled to be in court again on April 12 at 9:00 a.m.

Interlocal 619 provides special education services to five school districts within Sumner County.

Authorities said Remington worked in the Belle Plaine Elementary building. 

Below is a statement from Jon Mages, the special education director for Interlocal 619:

Sumner County Sheriff's Office has reported to Belle Plaine School and 619, that Mr. Friend has been arrested for sexual exploitation of a child.  Belle Plaine Schools and 619 have begun their own internal investigation into the matter.  Mr. Friend has been removed of his duties and is currently not working in the district and will not be on premises or around our students going forward." 
 

According to the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to the 1400 block of N. Merchant after reports of a sex offense. 

During the investigation deputies learned Remington Friend was in possession of lewd photographs of underage females.

The investigation is ongoing.
