Lucy Mojica was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Juan Carlos Caballeros-Yescas. Friends say Mojica kicked Yescas out of the home just one week prior.
Alan Gonzalez is the father of Mojica’s son, and he says he and Mojica had known each other since they were young.
“I’ve lived in Mexico for a little while now, but we still talk almost every day,” said Gonzalez. “We were video chatting on messenger, and all of a sudden, you hear a loud noise and then she looks towards the door scared and after that the phone hung up,” explained Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said he never heard from her again.
“She was going to move here,” said Gonzalez. “She was going to sell her stuff, put in a two-week notice with her job and move here with our son.”
It was a plan cut short, but now, Gonzalez asks that the focus shift from Mojica’s death to her life.
“I will always love her,” said Gonzalez. “She was very strong and independent. She never asked anyone for anything. (She was) just beautiful inside and out.”
Wichita police are still searching for the suspect, Juan Carlos Caballeros-Yescas. He was last seen driving a 2010 Volkswagen Beetle with Minnesota license tag number 119TDG. The car belongs to another woman he was staying with.
“He fled the state,” said Lt. Jason Stephens, Wichita Police Department. “At some point, at 2 or 3 a.m. Sunday, he returned home or back to Wichita. He went to a home on 1900 West 31st Street South. He committed a robbery. He contacted a person he knew and demanded money.”
Police believe Caballeros-Yescas may be headed for Texas or Mexico.
If you see him, you are asked to immediately call police and do not approach him.
