Drivers, get ready for another road closure. This time it’s in east Wichita.
Greenwich Road will close at Kellogg for two consecutive weekends, beginning 7 p.m. tonight. Officials plan to have the area reopened by 5 a.m. on Monday.
The closure allows crews to start hanging bridge girders above the Kellogg and Greenwich intersection, part of the new Kellogg freeway.
“It’s really necessary to safely do this work,” said Gary Janzen, with the City of Wichita. “It helps us get a lot further along to be able to keep the project moving.”
A detour is in place since Greenwich traffic won’t be able to cross Kellogg.
Left turns will be prohibited in all directions. Greenwich traffic will not be able to cross Kellogg and will have to turn right onto Kellogg. Northbound Greenwich will detour to the U-turn at Zelta. Southbound Greenwich will detour to the U-turn at Rock Road.
“It’s going to take a little bit longer. So just plan ahead, provide a little bit of extra time. Hopefully being over the weekend, most people can accommodate that,” said Janzen.
It should be the last major road closure for awhile, according to officials.
As of right now, drivers should expect minor lane closure in the future.
Janzen said the East Kellogg Project is still scheduled to finish by 2021.
