A Halloween store has opened in Wichita’s Towne West Mall and it has some people asking when is too soon to start celebrating the spooky holiday.
Spirit Halloween started welcoming customers to its west side location on August 16.
“We have gotten a lot of ‘oh my God. I can’t believe you are open’ or ‘we’ve been waiting for you!'” said Spirit Halloween Store Manager Gerald Hall.
Hall said since Thursday there has been a steady stream of customers coming in and out of the store.
“Sometimes it gives you chills because it’s just awesome to see people love Halloween as much as actually most of us employees do,” Hall said.
KSN spoke to several mall goers on Tuesday about the store’s opening. Some said they were shocked to see Halloween items in stores while others welcomed the spooky sales.
“I walked in and I thought it was a little bit early for it to be opened. Then, I was reminded that next month is September in about a week, so I’m excited. It’s cool. It’s one of my favorite holidays,” said Yoni Linares.
“Oh, I thought it was really quite early,” said Elena Miller. “We’re in August.”
“It’s a little early, but it’s fun,” said Jean Taylor. “We told each other it’s not even September yet, but you’ve got to get first pick.”
“I think it’s never too early to start on Halloween,” said Josh Hester.
The staff at Spirit Halloween couldn’t agree more. They’re eager for people to start shopping.
“It is a blast! There is so much fun here. It’s fun to help the customers. It’s fun to help with the program they call Spirit of Children. It’s awesome,” Hall said. “If I could, I would work at a Halloween store year round.”
What do you think? Is Halloween in August too soon?
Hall said it’s not unusual for Spirit Halloween to open in a couple of months before the holiday. He added the store will continue to get more products in through September and October.
