Hostage situation near Rock in Cowley County over

ROCK, Kan. (KSNW) - A hostage situation near the town of Rock in Cowley County is over.

Authorities tell KSN two juvenile girls in the home were held against their will after the suspect, their stepfather, shot their mother in the leg.

"Units responded and secured the area," said Cowley County Sheriff, David Fallett. "We were made aware there were two juveniles located in the home. This ended up being an individual who was the stepfather of the two children."

Neighbors were able to alert authorities to the incident after the mother of the girls was found laying near a road with a gunshot wound to her leg. Law enforcement responded, including a SWAT unit.

During the incident, the suspect fell asleep on the couch.

"Soon after the two juveniles ran out of the house (they) indicated that the suspect was asleep on the couch," said Falletti. "The SWAT team moved in and took the suspect into custody without incident. At this time the children have been taken to the hospital to be evaluated."

The mother was transported to a hospital in Wichita. The suspect, now identified as Marty Anderson was taken into custody.

The sheriff's department said the home is known to them. They investigated a domestic violence case within the last few weeks. Authorities say Marty Anderson was previously arrested and was on bond for allegations of rape, criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and contributing to a child's misconduct.

Charges are expected soon in the shooting.
