WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County and Wichita fire crews worked together to battle a house fire early Thursday.
It happened about a tenth of a mile east of 183rd Street West and Kellogg east of Goddard. Crews arrived and found heavy fire coming from the garage.
There were working smoke detectors in the home, plus a dog helped wake the residents up. Two adults escaped the fire with their baby. But two dogs, a cat and some baby chickens died.
Division Fire Chief Ray Hensley from the Sedgwick County Fire Department said the home was a total loss.
“We had crews from Wichita, Sedgwick County all respond,” Hensley said. “The guys worked very well together. They did a very good job today knocking down an extremely heavy amount of fire that we had inside the structure.”
Investigators say they have not determined the cause of the fire, but they have listed it as accidental.
Eastbound Kellogg was temporarily closed at 183rd Street West during the fire.
