How you can be fined $250 for certain fireworks

Local

It’s about that time. Independence Day brings food, family and fireworks to the same place at the same time but there are a few things you should know.

Wichita started selling fireworks Wednesday and the Valley Center area will start this weekend but different locations have different restrictions. In Valley Center, you can buy fireworks that shoot up to 20 feet in the air and be oka, but you can be fined for these fireworks in Wichita.

The Wichita Fire Department will be working with WPD in administering $250 fines for any firework that goes above six feet high, within Wichita City limits.

Now that you know the rules, make sure to carefully read the labels when purchasing your fireworks this week.
