WILSON, Kan. (KSNW) – A fire forced the town of Wilson to evacuate in Ellsworth County on Monday.
The fire started south of Wilson Lake. Wind from the north pushed the fire south towards Wilson. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers assisted with evacuating homes from Wilson. Officials allowed people to return to their homes late Monday.
The fire was approximately seven miles long and one mile wide. The fire destroyed outbuildings and several old vehicles.
Interstate 70 was also closed for several hours but was reopened. Currently, crews are still on the scene fighting the fire and hot spots.
Multiple fire departments were called from neighboring areas to help battle the blaze.
