IFM Winter Shelters to stay open extra hours this weekend

COLD WEATHER, FROZEN THERMOMETER

With temperatures expected to drop well below freezing the next few days and no daytime homeless services available in Sedgwick County over the weekend, Inter-Faith Ministries’s two Emergency Winter Shelters (one each for men and women) are making special efforts to remain open all day Saturday and Sunday.

Located at 841 N. Market and 848 N. Market, IFM’s men and women’s Emergency Winter Shelters are open daily from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. from November 1 through March 31 each year-including all holidays and regardless of inclement weather. Residents of the shelter are usually served both dinner and breakfast, but will also receive lunch this weekend as they stay out of the cold.

“The men and women we serve each night at these shelters have nowhere to go during the weekend days, so when the weather drops like this we do everything we can to keep them warm and off the streets,” says IFM Program Director Christen Sampamurthy.
