For the first time since her daughter was arrested for the death of Jesslin Hulett, the baby’s grandmother is speaking out.
Dawn Long’s daughter, Shelby Johnson, was booked into the Sumner County Jail last week on suspicion of first-degree murder among other charges.
For months, Long has wanted justice for Jesslinn, and even suspected her daughter may be involved, but she is torn knowing her daughter is accused of killing her.
“Wish that I could have seen her grow up more and see the things that I missed,” says Long.
You can hear Long talking to baby Jesslinn in what are likely the last videos of the seven month old. The video breaks her heart.
“We missed too much,” says Long.
When Long heard it was her daughter, Shelby Johnson, who was arrested for allegedly killing Jesslinn, it had her wondering how it ever even got to this point.
“I know my daughter, at least I used to know my daughter, and I don’t feel like she could have ever done this,” Long says.
Long now takes care of Johnson’s other two children though she says the two haven’t talked in months.
“I was shocked,” she says. “I really didn’t think it was going to come down to her.”
But despite the shock and the confusion, Long says she plans on showing up for her daughter in court on Thursday and for Jesslinn.
“She is still my daughter, and I will still be there to see how things go. I don’t know how it is going to feel. It is going to be very hard listening to all of this,” says Long.
Johnson’s bond is currently set at $250,000. She is set to appear in court in Sumner County on Thursday at 1:30 p.m..
