WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – There may be changes to your Monday morning commute if you frequent Kellogg and I-235.
The ramp from eastbound Kellogg to northbound I-235 will be closing Monday morning. It will remain closed for the next two and a half months.
“We’ll have single lane traffic for both northbound and southbound I-235, just over US-54. So that requires a closure of the eastbound 54 to northbound I-235 ramp,” said Tom Hein, public information officer for the Kansas Department of Transportation.
KDOT recommended motorists to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
The closings are part of the Red Project that aims to improve the interchange between the two highways.
“This is actually repairing the two bridges on I-235 that go over US-54,” said Hein. “There are three-lane bridges. We’re going to strip off the deck on them, do some repairs, put a new deck on top of the driving surface. So that requires some lane closures.”
After crews finish the bridge work, they will close the other lanes to work on the other side of the bridge. KDOT said these lane closures will also last for 75 days.
The Red Project started in 2015 and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2019.
