SWAT standoff in west Wichita ends peacefully

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A standoff in west Wichita Tuesday involving the Wichita Police Department SWAT team ended peacefully. No arrests were made.

It began around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Central and Clara, near I-235.

Officers had been called to the area for a report of a suspicious character and shots fired.

When police arrived, four people came out of the home; however, one person did not leave the property, causing the Wichita Police Department to call in their SWAT team.

Hours later, officers learned the person inside was not involved in the shooting and was hurt, causing the standoff to end.

KSN spoke with the neighbor who made the initial 911 call.

“Very scary, it’s not something you want to see every day in your neighborhood,” said Mark White, initial caller. “You have armored vehicles coming up and down the streets and at least a dozen police cars. So, it gets at least a little frightening.”

Police say no one was hurt in the shooting. The person inside the home had a severed toe and finger.

Officer Charley Davidson of the Wichita Police Department said that it is not connected to the shooting but did not release any more information.

If you know any information, the police ask you to call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers 316-267-2111.
