It was graduation day as the Wichita Police Department and Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office got new members.
WPD welcomed 20 new officers while the sheriff’s office added nine deputies.
They have spent the past several weeks training in the academy.
The new grads said they are excited to get started.
“Meeting new people. Having a new situation every day. Learning every day,” said Justin Woody, WPD. “That will be fun.”
“Just being able to help somebody on the side of the road whether it’s a bad crash or just being able to get them to the hospital in a timely manner so that way they can get home to their families,” said Conner Blasi, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
The new officers will go through field training with veteran officers before they are set free on their own.
