WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The man who pled no contest after stealing Louie the Clown and other items from the owners of Joyland Amusement Park was sentenced Tuesday in Sedgwick County.
Damian Mayes will serve up to 15 months in jail and 12 months probation. As part of the plea, he cannot appeal the ruling.
The items were found in February 2015 at Mayes’ home. Mayes was an employee of the park who helped build and repair organs. The nearly life-sized carved clown played an automated organ near Joyland’s entrance for decades before the park closed in 2006.Photos: Louie The Clown returns
The clown statue disappeared from Joyland sometime in 2005 or 2006 and was officially reported stolen in 2010. The park has been closed since 2006.
Mayes is also serving a prison sentence for aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties out of Harvey County.LOUIE THE CLOWN AT JOYLAND
