We’re a getting a look inside the city’s new Advanced Learning Library.
A decade of planning and a year and a half of construction to create this new facility in Wichita.
“This is the gateway, the public entrance to the building. it also is an after hours venue space,” explains Director of Libraries Cynthia Berner.
Of course not everything is finished just yet.
There are still chairs and tables to be put in place, and soon the moving process from the old library to the new will begin.
“After we close for business on the 6th of may we will immediately be suspending the book drop service,” says Berner. “We’ll have the book drop open at this location, we’ll have it at all of our other locations as well.”
A new section for technology, a new children’s pavilion, an area for local history and genealogy and even a café.
These more than 105,000 square feet offer numerous opportunities.
“We’ll create something like a stage so we can use the concrete seating area to do outdoor story time or children can come and act out their own activities,” says Berner.
Again the current library will close at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6th.
The new library doesn’t have an exact opening date yet – but staff say we can expect one soon.
