If you are a Chiefs fan then Kansas City is the place to be this weekend. But every other day of the year if you want to talk Chiefs you need to head to Newton.
“People know me as Lucky,” said Marcus, owner of Lucky’s Barber Shop on Main Street in Newton.
If you go to Lucky’s you will get a haircut. And you will get the latest on the Chiefs. Lucky’s is lined with Chiefs memorabilia.
His customers don’t always come for a haircut. Sometimes it’s just to talk about Kansas City.
“We’ll chat about the score and who we think is hot and he’s a huge fan and it’s cool to have him on Main Street,” said Lucky’s customer, Ken Regier.
And if Lucky is with a customer, Ken and other customers can talk Chiefs with Lucky’s daughter.
“He’s been a Chiefs fan for the longest longest, since I was a little kid,” said Lashya Hollis. “This year we call it… ‘rise of the Mahomes.’ I think he’s the man. He will get us to that Super Bowl. Tom Brady is gonna have to watch out for this amazing quarterback we got.”
Other businesses on Main Street have Chiefs fans rolling in to talk AFC Championship.
“It’s everywhere. It’s the AFC Championship game,” said Joey Young.
His wife, also sporting red for the Chiefs talks about the “Mahomes field” advantage.
“It’s the loudest stadium in the NFL and that’s part of what makes it so scary for the Patriots… to have to walk into our turf like that,” said Lindsey Young.
Of course it wouldn’t be a typical day at Lucky’s without a prediction for the next game.
“Great quarterback coach in Andy Reid and I’ve been a lifetime fan and this year seems to be magic,” said Lucky. “I’m riding with Mahomes number 15 all the way to the Super Bowl.”
