Oldest man to win swimming endeavor games brings gold to Wichita

Frankie Martin is 65 years old, and he is celebrating one of the biggest wins of his life.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Martin. “I just wanted to win one swimming competition.”

Martin competed in the 2018 Endeavor Games, for athletes with physical disabilities In Oklahoma and he says the experience far exceeded his expectations.

“Never competed at this level before so, to just win a medal was my only goal but I was able to win 5 gold medals,” he explained.

Martin told KSN that he has always loved to swim and after having his leg amputated, swimming became an outlet.

“Once, I had my leg amputated, it was a different world,” said Martin. “Everything became harder.”

Martin is the oldest Endeavor swimmer to go home with five gold medals.

“I had some support along the way and lots of training,” said Martin.
