WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two people who died in a crash on Wichita’s south side Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office said Ramona Blizzard, 91, of Wichita, was driving a car that was hit head-on by a van. Investigators say the van driver was Justin Newby, 33, of Derby.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. at 63rd South and Southern. Southern is a few blocks east of Seneca.

According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses say the van was going around 100 mph westbound on 63rd South. A traffic sign shows the speed limit there is 45 mph.

“It came across the center line, and it appears that it went airborne over the railroad tracks and struck a car that was traveling east,” Sgt. Jared Bloesing, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, said.

He said the van then rear-ended a pickup before coming to a stop.

Blizzard and Newby died at the scene. The 70-year-old driver and 63-year-old passenger of the Chevy truck received minor injuries.

Bloesing said the witness accounts are helping with the investigation, but he said they have also retrieved some video that will help in the case.
