One man killed in single-vehicle crash in south Wichita

Wichita police said one man has died after a single-vehicle crash in south Wichita. It happened around 8:15 Wednesday in the 4100 block of South Seneca. 

When officers arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. Police were unable to release his identity Wednesday night, but police said the man was in his 50s. 

No one else was injured. 

Authorities have been interviewing witnesses who heard the crash to piece together what happened, but they have not interviewed anyone who saw the crash. They are asking any witnesses of the crash to please call 911 with any information. 

Lt. Slaughter said it appears the man was traveling at a higher rate of speed when he struck the tree.

Authorities are on the scene of a car crash in south Wichita. 

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4100 block of S. Seneca. EMS on the scene tell dispatchers one victim of the crash was in critical condition.

It is unclear what caused the crash at this time.

Drivers should avoid the area while authorities investigate. Both the Wichita Police Department and the Wichita Fire Department have authorities on the scene.
