WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 65-year-old woman died following an apartment fire Tuesday morning.
The fire happened in southeast Wichita in the 8000 block of E. Harry St. just after 4 a.m.
Arriving crews reported not finding anything showing from the exterior of a two-story triplex.
“After further investigation, getting a 360, they made entry inside the structure, had smoke, a small amount of fire,” said Battalion Chief Terry Gresham, Wichita Fire Department.
After forcing their way inside, crews began to work the fire and search the structure. They located an unconscious victim within 60 seconds.
“Life saving measures were taken by on scene fire fighters until SCEMS arrived on scene and evaluated the victim. Unfortunately the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” said the Wichita Fire Department in a Facebook post.
The woman’s identity has not been released.
The fire was contained and brought under control.
The Wichita Fire Department said the fire was under investigation, and there were no working smoke alarms.
No firefighters were injured, and no other occupants were displaced.
