The week-long celebration of Juneteenth has reached its final day with a parade and block party.
Saturday’s events kicked off with the parade, which started at Wichita State University. From there, performers, activist groups and more traveled down Hillside and 17th St, ending in McAdam’s Park.
Participants say the celebration is important to recognize Juneteenth as a community event for all people.
“I think it is important for us to make sure that we are out here representing and we encourage other people to come out, because once again it is a community event and it is something that is very important to the African American people,” said Kim Baptiste-Bufford, parade participant.
There is still time to get in on the fun. A block party is being held in McAdams Park until 10:00 p.m.
