WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita woman was shot in the face by her great-nephew Saturday night.
According to the Wichita Police Department, they received a call at 7:05 p.m. for the report of a shooting in the 200 block of S. Minneapolis St.
Upon arrival at the home, the WPD says they found a 72-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her face. She was transported by EMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The firearm used was found in the home by officers, according to the WPD.
Police say an investigation revealed that the woman was inside her home with her 11-year-old great-nephew. He was showing her a gun when it went off and struck her in the face.
The great-nephew left the scene and was located at his home in the 1800 block of E. English and was taken into custody without incident.
The gun was reported stolen. An investigation is ongoing.
