The global pharmaceutical company Pfizer is coming to Wichita Wednesday morning to hire 350 workers at their McPherson plant.

As part of an expanding industry, McPherson’s site leader Carole Johnson said the company is looking for bright, talented engineers, scientist and determined workers.

“We expand the growth of all the products that we make here on sight,” she said. “Seeing an increased amount, we are needing to gear up in operations and a lot of our support services.”

The job fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Wichita Airport, 2098 S. Airport Road.

Open positions include engineering roles, production operators, quality insurance, skilled trade and scientific positions.

“What we’re focusing here is a lot on pain relief,” she said. “A lot of oncology products, immunization, immunology, as well as consumer health part of the business.”

At the job fair, people will be able to meet with hiring managers, be interviewed and learn more about the company.

“The opportunity to have those face-to-face conversations to understand more about specific roles will be available,” Johnson said.

All jobs require a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, and you can find the full list of available jobs here.

Anyone who is interested in attending the job fair, you can pre-register for the event here.

Pfizer is eager to fill the 350 positions hopefully within the next 30-45 days.

McPherson’s mayor said this job influx is good news for the economy and to the wider community.

“The last five years, they’re becoming more and more involved in the community,” Mayor Tom Brown said. “So they became a very good corporate citizen.”

KSN also spoke to multiple residents, and they said they’re excited for more jobs coming into town, but they hope these new employees will move into the new housing developments instead of commuting.

“It just puzzles me when people work in McPherson, and they drive from other towns,” McPherson resident Juanita Hanson said. “I think why don’t you live there.”

Brown said for anyone who is moving to McPherson, there are four different housing developments going up right now, and the city will have two different housing incentives.
