The Maize Police Department is addressing several concerns among parents following Thursday’s active shooter false call.
Police said numerous comments of incorrect information are circulating on social media, and the information could cause great concern for students and parents.
The department said after an investigation, they determined that the response was prompted by a concerned parent who contacted 911 with information that they believed to be true. The information reported was coming from students at Maize South High School and was indicating a possible shooter with the school being placed on lockdown.
The department determined that the information originated from rumors being circulated within the student body
The Maize South SRO stationed within the school was able to assess the situation and notify responding officers before they had to enter the school. Police said administrators followed proper protocol within the school for student and staff safety. No weapons were found on the Maize South Campus.
The Maize Police Department said they urge people to speak up and report any information or suspicious activity that may jeopardize student safety.
