Police identify woman who died after motorcycle and car collide in Old Town

Local

Wichita police said a woman died after a motorcycle and a car collided near Old Town. The crash happened near 3rd and Washington a little after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Two motorcycles were involved in the crash, according to police. A 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, identified as Sarah Schnake, were heading southbound on a motorcycle and crashed into a northbound Chevy Sonic.

Both were transported to the hospital. At the hospital, Schnake was pronounced dead. The 25-year-old man remains in critical condition.

“The investigation revealed a 26-year-old female was driving a 2012 gray Chevy Sonic northbound on Washington and turned left onto 3rd Street in front of several motorcycles traveling south on Washington,” said officer Charley Davidson.

Another motorcyclist clipped the back of the Sonic. He wasn’t injured. The driver of the car was seriously injured.

Police said impairment wasn’t a factor in the crash. However, they said the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.

Washington was shut down following the crash while authorities investigated and cleaned up the crash.

It is the 23rd fatal accident of the year in Wichita.
