WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — An argument turned into a shooting at an apartment complex near the I-135/US 54 interchange Friday. The Wichita Police Department now says the victim is a 17-year-old boy.
The call came in shortly before 1 p.m. of a shooting in the 800 block of South Hydraulic.
Police say that witnesses reported there was an argument, then an exchange of gunfire. They said the victim ended up running away and collapsing in the middle of the apartment complex.
“When officers arrived, we discovered that he had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body,” said Captain Wendell Nicholson, Wichita Police Department.
He says the victim is expected to survive.
Police say the suspect, Fred Rogers, 45, ran from the scene. Officers found him and booked him into jail on suspicion of one count of aggravated battery. They say Rogers has previously been convicted of felony crimes.
Police say Rogers and the victim know each other. They say the investigation revealed that the two got into an argument in the parking lot, that Rogers pulled out a handgun, fired multiple shots, striking the victim, and then fled.
