WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police have made an arrest in a fatal shooting Monday. It happened around 1:15 p.m. in the 6200 block of East Orme.
Police said 18-year-old D’Shaun Smith was found fatally shot one time in a vehicle. Another 18-year-old woman was inside the car at the time of the shooting. She was not hurt.
Wichita police believe the two victims went to the location to buy marijuana when the suspect pulled a gun and fired.
“During the investigation, detectives learned that Mr. Smith and female went to the location to meet an unknown male. It is believed at this time there was going to be a marijuana transaction occurring with this unknown male,” said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department. “The suspect pulled a firearm attempting to rob the man and the victim.”
Police said the suspect fled. Late Monday, police set up surveillance at a home. The suspect left and was arrested by police.
The suspect, identified on police booking records as 18-year-old Mark Lewis Holley III, was arrested for aggravated first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
Police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office later this week. The homicide is the eighth this year in Wichita.
