WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Police say two pickups were racing in southwest Wichita when one of the trucks hit a child. The trucks did not stop.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the 2700 block of S. Meridian Avenue.

Police say the victim, a 9-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Witnesses told police about the two pickups and described the pickups. Police found the vehicles and arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy.

The 17 year old was booked on suspicion of aggravated battery, reckless driving, hit-and-run, and a violation of drivers license restrictions.

The 16 year old was booked on suspicion of reckless driving and no drivers license.

They are in the juvenile detention facility.

Police have not released how fast the two trucks were going. They say it is part of their investigation.
