HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) – Hutchinson police responded to Hutchinson Middle School 8 Thursday afternoon after a 911 caller stated someone had a gun. The person hung up.

It happened around 3:39 p.m. Arriving officers were able to locate a 14-year-old student who admitted to placing the call as a prank. The student was arrested on a misdemeanor traffic warrant as well as the charge of giving false alarm.

In a statement to parents of students at the school, the district said Hutchinson Middle School will conduct an investigation.

Good evening,Many of you may have noticed a large Police presence at HMS 8 this afternoon during dismissal. The reason for this was that at about 3:39 pm, officers were sent to the school in reference to a 911 caller who stated, “He has a gun.” and then hung up.Arriving officers were able to locate a 14 year old student who admitted to placing the call as a prank. He was subsequently arrested on a misdemeanor traffic warrant as well as the charge of Giving False Alarm. The HPD investigation is ongoing.HMS-8 will do its own investigation, following district disciplinary policy.
