Robbery suspect dead after armed citizen shoots during robbery in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Wichita police say a 16-year-old robbery suspect has died after being shot by an armed citizen during a robbery at a south Wichita convenience store.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Friday at the B&H Fast Trip in the 2000 block of S. Seneca. Authorities say four males walked into the store and demanded money at gunpoint.

A customer in the store was also robbed when he pulled out his own firearm and shot toward the suspects, striking one. That suspect later died at a nearby hospital.

The other three suspects fled the scene.

Police say they are searching for three other suspects in the robbery. They are believed to be connected to another robbery that took place earlier in the day at a Family Dollar in the 900 block of S. Woodlawn.

During that robbery three suspects came into the store with guns and demanded property. There were no injuries in that robbery.

If you have any information you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or WPD detectives at 316-268-4407.

Police are searching for suspects involved in an armed robbery at a convenience store in south Wichita.

Lt. Chris Halloran with the Wichita Police Department said witnesses to the crime reported four young black males walked into the store and began demanding money at gunpoint.

A citizen who was in line was also robbed. That citizen was armed and shot one of the suspects, critically injuring him, police say.

"In our state here in Kansas we do have open carry and carry concealed," said Lt. Halloran. "So individuals breaking the law may never know when someone in line at a store in this example could get shot," said Lt. Halloran.

It happened around 2:45 at 2796 S. Seneca.

Police are still searching for three suspects at this time. They were last seen running away from the scene east on 31st Street.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the police.

The investigation is ongoing.
