WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man has died following a shooting in south Wichita Wednesday evening.
The shooting report came in at 7:05 p.m. in the 3400 block of E. Sunnybrook Lane.
Upon arrival, police found a man who had been shot one time. According to Sedgwick County Dispatch, he was not breathing.
The Wichita Police Department says EMS worked on him and took him to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died.
WPD Lieutenant Lee Eisenbise says a preliminary investigation revealed the man was walking in the street when he had a confrontation with two to three people in a car.
A fight ensued, and one of the people that got out of the car was injured.
Lee says another person from the car shot the man who had been walking down the street. The car then drove away.
“We don’t think there’s any danger to the public. We think these individuals are known to each other, and, again, this is a confrontation over some property probably,” Lee said.
An investigation is ongoing.
“We encourage anyone who has information, who might’ve seen anything, to call Crime Stoppers or 911,” Lee says. “We don’t solve any of these crimes without the help of the public, and we appreciate it.”
