Post office delivering cards around Wichita to get attention of dog owners

The post office is delivering postcards around Wichita trying to get the attention of dog owners.

The cards have an angry dog on the front and information on the city’s dog ordinance. The laws prohibit dogs from running loose.

When a dog is outside, it must be confined within a secure fence or on a leash.

The maximum time a dog can be tied outside is one hour a day, three times a day with at least a three hour break in between.

The post office hopes this will ultimately protect mail carriers.

“We were in the top 10 in that nation with dog bites to carriers, not a position I was proud to be in so we had to do something,” said Ryon Knopik, Wichita postmaster.

The postmaster says the numbers are better than they used to be but still seven local mail carriers have been bitten since October.
