WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County 911 got a call of an explosion at Bombardier Thursday morning around 10:30. The caller said one person was injured.
A victim was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
EMS said a man in his 40s was scrapping parts in the building at 1 Learjet Way when one of the parts flew at him with a lot of force and hit him in the chest. No other workers were injured.
Bombardier released a statement confirming the incident.
“We can confirm that the incident was isolated and has been traced to an obsolete part the employee was working on at the time,” Anna Cristofaro, communications manager, said.
“The safety and wellbeing of all our employees is of the utmost important to us. We take this incident seriously and are cooperating fully with the authorities as required.”
An EMS supervisor said the victim is expected to survive.
