One person was seriously injured after a car accident on northbound I-135 Monday afternoon between 21st Street and K-96.
Troopers say Brice Grossman, 21, of Wichita, was seriously injured when he was struck by Robert Jobert, 61, of Kechi, while providing roadside assistance to another vehicle.
Troopers say that when a Cintas van got a flat tire, the occupants pulled over to the shoulder and called for assistance. Grossman responded from the service company and parked behind the disabled van. To access the spare tire for the van, Gross had to go underneath vehicle.
Authorities say that’s when Jobert hit the Cintas van from behind in his GMC pick-up truck, while Grossman was underneath.
Initially, Grossman was found unresponsive and taken to Wesley Medical Center. Troopers now say his official condition is seriously injured.
Troopers say Jobert had no apparent injuries, but was taken to Wesley.
The occupants of the disabled Cintas van were not in the vehicle, and therefore not injured.
The accident was caused delays as crews worked to clear the highway and had only two lanes open.
KSN is still working to learn more about the status of the injuries and what might have caused the accident.
