HAYS, Kan. (KSNW) – Two semi-trucks crashed forcing traffic to a standstill on I-70 between Hays and Russell Sunday.

It happened near the Walker exit. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Freightliner was broken down on the north shoulder of westbound I-70 when a Peterbilt truck struck it. The Peterbilt continued westbound and came to rest on the I-70 overpass over old U.S. 40 and caught fire.

A 59-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man from Ohio, the driver and passenger in the Peterbilt, were both transported to Hays Medical Center for their injuries. The driver of the Freightliner wasn’t transported to the hospital.

Westbound I-70 was shut down for a time as crews worked to remove the truck.
