A West High student was taken into police custody Friday after a loaded gun was found at the school.
A spokesperson with Wichita Public Schools said the discovery was an isolated incident, no one was hurt and no threats were made.
According to Susan Arensman with Wichita Public Schools, the SRO got involved quickly and took the male student who had the gun into police custody.
The school was not placed on lockdown.
The gun was discovered after students and staff brought concerns to the attention of school officials, according to a message sent to parents of West High students on Friday.
School officials are asking parents to speak with their children about the serious consequences of bringing weapons to school.
Wichita police say the student was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility for possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm while at school.
