WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A standoff with a suspected gunman at a south Wichita trailer park has ended with a 50-year-old man in custody.

Around 11:45 a.m., victims called 911 reporting a man was waving a handgun around and threatening his neighbors in the Lakeview Community, 1000 block of E. MacArthur, just east of I-135. The man allegedly fired a shot.

When officers arrived, they attempted to contact the suspect but met him armed with a firearm and refusing to drop the gun or cooperate. The suspect went back into his home and refused to come out.

The SWAT team was called in.

According to the Wichita Police Department, negotiators talked the man into coming out of his home. However, after about six hours, he was placed in custody.

“We did utilize some less-lethal options as well as a K-9 unit to assist into taking him into custody,” said officer Trevor Macy.

The man was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of minor injuries he sustained.

On Friday, police said the suspect, identified as Kerry Ordway of Wichita, was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.

Police evacuated the neighboring homes as a precaution.
