A teen has died and another man was injured after a crash in northwest Sedgwick County. It happened around 7:30 a.m. near 21st Street North and 167th Street West.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 GMC Yukon XL was traveling east when it was struck by a blue 1995 Chevrolet pickup heading west on 21st Street.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 17-year-old Conner J. Richuber, was found unresponsive. He died at the scene. The driver of the Yukon, identified as 55-year-old James Speer, was transported in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital.

“As a school community, we want to extend our thoughts and prayers to Conner Richuber’s family during this difficult time. Our crisis team have been available to support students and staff individually, or in groups, today and throughout the weeks to come.”

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said icy road conditions and speed could be contributing factors. They urge drivers to slow down and be cautious.
Authorities blocked off 21st Street from 167th to 183rd Street as they investigated.
