Teens wearing Halloween masks, filming YouTube video prompts lockdown of Hutchinson school

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) - Graber Elementary School in Hutchinson was placed on lockdown near the end of the school day after 911 dispatchers alerted the school of possible suspicious individuals nearby.

Ray Hemman, a spokesperson from Graber Elementary School said the lockdown was immediately initiated after authorities contacted the school.

When Hutchinson police officers arrived to the scene, they found two teenagers wearing Halloween costumes and filming a YouTube video. The teens also had a piece of PVC pipe on them that, from a distance, could resemble a knife or a weapon.

The lockdown was lifted as soon as police spoke to the teenagers.

The incident caused the final bell to be late by about 10 minutes.

Hemman said the school is grateful for the neighbors who are watching out for them.
