For some it’s hard to get as excited about the NIT tournament, but the shockers are still playing with pride.
Just ask Staycey Zogelmann.
“It was a mad furious dash to get there in time for the game,“ says Zogelmann. “It was hard finding flights but sometimes you just suck it up.“
But Zogelmann made it. She just got back this afternoon and will be taking off again on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to see the Shockers play Clemson.
“I go to every post season whether it is NCAA or NIT,“ she says. “The Shockers are my boys, so I support them.“
One of the biggest reasons why this year, she says, is the way this team turned itself around from a slow, disappointing start to the season, to then throwing down thunderous dunks and hitting game winners. The Shockers willed themselves to the postseason.
“it takes a lot of effort to get there,“ she says, “I think they should be rewarded for that.“
While most flight tickets were in the thousands, Monday, Zogelmann says she found away to beat the prices.
“I ended up finding on Priceline that if you are not specific about times, you can get a ticket for about half the cost,“ she says.
With that Zogelmann will be back on a plane and back in South Carolina a happy Shocker fan.
“We should show them our support and encourage them for all of their efforts,“ she says.
Zogelmann says she is superstitious and will be staying at the same hotel.
