WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police arrested a man and woman on suspicion of felony murder stemming from the death of their 2-year-old son.

It happened Thursday around 11:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Hydraulic.

Shannon is a neighbor. He said he saw a man and a woman on the porch of the home. “I didn’t hear any screaming or anything, and the lights were all out except one inside the house,” said Shannon. “And I turned around to head back to the house, when I heard a woman wailing and screaming in a way that made my stomach sink. So, I then called 911.”

Officers arrived and found 28-year-old Patrick Javonovich and 22-year-old Brandi Marchant were walking back to the home after being involved in a verbal disturbance. The two had left the home leaving a 2-year-old boy and 4-month-old boy alone.

Police entered the home to check on two children and found 2-year-old Zaiden Javonovich unresponsive in a crib. He was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine his cause of death.

The 4-month-old boy was transported to the hospital where he remains for medical care. The child will be placed into protective care.

Marchant is the mother of both boys and Javonovich is the father of one of the children.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney who will determine what charges will be officially filed.
