UPDATE: Police say standoff in Wichita ends peacefully

Local

Wichita police say a 27-year-old man is in custody after he threatened to kill his family members who were inside the home.

It happened near 11th and Waco on Saturday night. The standoff came to an end around 9 p.m.

They say he barricaded himself along with a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy as officers approached the home.

Negotiators spent a while trying to de-escalate the situation. Eventually, the man came out peacefully, and the children were taken to their mother.

“Through negotiations with our negotiator team, we were able to de-escalate the situation sufficiently.
We made arrangements for the children to be released and the subject came out peacefully,” said Capt. Chester Pinkston.

Police say the suspect had active felony warrants including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
