Update: Victim in Wichita fatal crash identified as son of Wabaunsee County sheriff

Local

A victim in a south Wichita fatal crash has been identified. It happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said Chevy Cavalier was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-135.

The Cavalier hit a semi head-on. It left the roadway and entered the median and rolled.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Luke A. Hoskins of Wichita, died. The driver of the semi wasn’t injured. Hoskins is the son of the Wabaunsee County Sheriff Robert Hoskins.

The crash is still under investigation.

“We’re still in the preliminary investigation into this one. We will check the whole spectrum of going through seeing if the subject might have been impaired, seeing if there was any sorta like maybe texting or any of that stuff that went on which led this person to be going the wrong way,” said Trooper Phillip Metzen, Kansas Highway Patrol.

Trooper Metzen said Hoskins was not wearing a seat belt.
