USD 259 using potential student walkouts as teachable moment

Local

The Wichita School District says a planned protest by students next week will be allowed.

It is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. next Wednesday to mark the one month anniversary of the school shooting in Florida.

Superintendent Dr. Alicia Thompson says if students do walk out, they will be allowed to come back to class, adding that each school will follow its own tardy policy.

The district says it’s talking with students to use this as a teachable moment on civic responsibility.
