Victim identified in deadly Saturday shooting


WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police said a 25-year-old man died in a shooting Saturday in northeast Wichita. It happened around 2 a.m. to the 1100 block of North Estelle.

Arriving officers found Semaj Chambers with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died.

Police learned the victim and his friends went to the home to visit some friends. They left the home after the confrontation, but they came back and the shooting occurred.

According to the Sedgwick County booking report, 33-year-old Joshua Prevett has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. He is being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Police also arrested a 17-year-old man in connection to the shooting.

It is the Wichita’s 33rd homicide this year. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office tomorrow.
