Water is being released from Cheney Reservoir due to recent rainfall

Due to the recent rainfall, the Army Corps of Engineers is releasing a controlled amount of water from Cheney Reservoir to maintain the safety of the dam.

According to the Army Corps, the released water will not exceed river banks.

Officials say there is no expected damage or flooding downstream from the water surcharge operations, which are expected to last through the weekend.

Cheney, Clearwater and surrounding unincorporated Sedgwick County area may be affected.
