City officials have announced the city of Wichita has been selected to host the 2020 U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern and Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships.

Brian Hargrove, Executive Director of Sports Development at Visit Wichita made the announcement during a press conference Friday afternoon.

Competitions during the event will take place at INTRUST Bank Arena, while practices will be held at the Wichita Ice Center.

The event will bring in an estimated $3.4 million in economic impact, said Hargrove. And more than 6,000 athletes, coaches and their families are expected to travel to Wichita for the event.

The city hosted the same event earlier this year.

“To host in 2018 and then be selected in 2020 is rare and I believe the statement is about the quality of the facility…and the city’s ability to host an event of this magnitude,” said Terry Newman, Visit Wichita’s Board Chair.
