Wichita community donates hundreds of prom outfits for students to wear for free

Prom is often one of the most memorable nights of high school for many students, but some families can’t afford to buy a new dress or a tuxedo for the special occasion.

One annual event gives Kansas high schoolers the chance to snag a nice outfit for free. The event called Gown Town was held at North High School in Wichita on Saturday.

Hundreds of gently worn outfits were donated and made available. All of the clothes were donated at In the Bag Cleaners locations throughout Wichita.

“Every year it’s really, really good,” said Leslea Roach, organizer of Gown Town. “I have great cooperation from the community. This year I had some extra donations which are really nice. I’ve had new garments donated. Lots of tuxedos came in for the guys this year.”
