Wichita dad gains attention for Lego recreations

A Wichita dad is re-creating well-known monuments, businesses and organizations out of Legos, gaining him attention around the city and on social media.

Tim Rorabaugh, also known as “Lego ICT Dad”, has created more than a dozen detailed Lego projects.

“I grew up playing with Legos,” Rorabaugh said. “A lot of my friends’ kids play with Legos. I think they’re the best toy ever invented by far. I just love the fact that you can do this kind of thing.”

As part of a project for a friend opening a new chain of Chick-Fil-A, Rorabaugh designed his own Lego project and used the Chick-Fil-A logo.

He has also made pieces that look like the Keeper of the Plains, the Delano Clock Tower, the Wichita Public Schools logo and the Chrome Horse outside of the Bank of America Center.

“I made a commitment to highlighting an organization here in Wichita, business or something I love about Wichita,” Rorabaugh said.

His most recent peace is the most meaningful so far, though.

Lego ICT Dad is a mentor coach at Youth Horizons in Wichita. The organizations helps mentor kids in the area and Rorabaugh re-created the building with great detail.

Rorabaugh said the experience he has had mentoring kids has made a lasting impact on his life.

“I wanted to build something like a building,” Rorabaugh said. “Youth Horizons was the first real thing that connected me to Wichita.”

Now every week, Rorabaugh will peace together a new project, each one representing the city he has grown to love.

“I love Wichita,” Rorabaugh said. “I’ve grown to really appreciate it and appreciate the arts and the community and I feel this is home.”

Rorabaugh has already completed the creations for the next couple of weeks and said he is excited to reveal them.
